Silene takes its name from a flower commonly found in our countryside: Silene vulgaris, recognizable by its distinctive balloon-like shape. It is made from a selection of 100% Cesanese di Affile grapes, sourced from four vineyards planted in different periods and trained using the spurred cordon and “fan” methods. Yield at harvest ranges from 1.5 to 2 kg per vine (approximately 6 to 10 clusters per plant).
The grapes are hand-harvested once optimal ripeness is reached. Grapes from each vineyard are fermented separately in concrete vats. Fermentation is spontaneous and lasts about 10 days. After racking, Silene is aged in concrete tanks on its fine lees for about one year. Before bottling, the different lots are blended. After bottling, Silene rests in our cellars for an additional 3 months.
This wine offers aromas of crisp red fruit and aromatic herbs, with added mineral notes. On the palate, it is fresh with well-balanced, measured tannins. A handcrafted wine that faithfully reflects the territory in which it is produced.
