Galea Bianco is a wine made primarily from Friulano grapes, with a small addition of Verduzzo, an indigenous variety. It is a classic, old-school Friulano—earthy, deep, and strongly expressive of its terroir, coming from a vineyard with south/southeast exposure, bathed in sunlight all day long.
With a deeply territorial personality, the wine matures for 18 months on fine lees in stainless steel. It shows a bright straw-yellow color, and a bold nose that elegantly blends floral scents, fresh Mediterranean herbs, and medicinal plants, with thyme, citrus hints, iodized breezes, and smoky undertones. Notes of almond, flint, honey, and anise emerge as well.
On the palate, the entry is perfectly balanced, offering a juicy sip that evolves softly on floral notes. Saltiness and smoothness alternate, creating a dynamic and textured mouthfeel.
Produced from over 80-year-old vines of an ancient Friulano biotype. It is a serious, structured wine, with only 3,000 bottles made annually. These wines age beautifully, developing complex tertiary aromas that make them even more captivating over time.
Difference from Clivi Brazan
Same grape variety, same vinification process—everything is done identically to isolate terroir as the sole differentiating factor. The two wines come from the same variety but from two distinct vineyards:
-
Galea: drier and sunnier, with flinty and honeyed nuances.
-
Brazan: cooler and more humid, with greater temperature variation, resulting in more hydrocarbon-like notes and a saline, sea-breeze minerality.
